  • BORDEAUX MONTAIGNE UNIVERSITY

The 2026 Higher Education Summit will take place at the campus of Bordeaux Montaigne University – one of the largest campuses in Europe. Bordeaux Montaigne University brings together more than 16,000 students and 1,300 teaching and administrative staff, for study and research in the arts, languages, literatures and human and social sciences.

As a laboratory for ideas, and an intellectual hotbed, Bordeaux Montaigne University contributes meaningfully to the scientific debates of its day and works tirelessly to cultivate and nurture its fundamental values: independence, and freedom of thought. The university considers equality of opportunities to be one of its priority missions, and works permanently to perfect the courses it offers, and to support and guide its students towards success.

Now so more than ever before, Bordeaux Montaigne University seeks to follow in the path of Michel de Montaigne, continuing to offer a university model that is distinctly human in its scope and appearance. In accordance with the values that have characterised it since its very establishment, the university seeks to be: humanist, exploratory, polyglot, civic-minded, creative and digitally connected.

  • CITY OF BORDEAUX

The city of Bordeaux has a population of about 267,000 inhabitants (1,376,000 including the metropolitan area). Bordeaux is an international tourist destination for its architectural and cultural heritage with more than 362 historic monuments, making it, after Paris, the city with the most listed or registered monuments in France. The city, known as the "Pearl of Aquitaine", has been voted European Destination of the year in a 2015 online poll. Since June 2007, the city of Bordeaux has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in recognition of the unity of its exceptional urban heritage.

    Bordeaux is …

    • The left banks of the River Garonne, stretching from the floating docks down to the Sainte Croix neighbourhood, which can be meandered on foot via some 4.5 km of pathways for pedestrians and cyclists.
    • The historic quarter with the Grand Théâtre, and the place de la Bourse square along with its famous water mirror, which was the spectacular work of landscapist Michel Corajoud. There's also the Saint-André cathedral and the Pey-Berland tower; the Saint-Pierre neighbourhood, whose streets have a distinctly Anglo-Gascon air about them; the belfry of the Grosse Cloche and the gateway at the Porte Cailhau.
    • Eleven museums, including contemporary art exhibitions at the CAPC; the historical collection at the Musée d'Aquitaine; the fine arts collection at the Galerie des Beaux-Arts, the decorative arts collection at the Musée d'Arts Décoratifs et du Design; the natural history collection at the Musée d'Histoire Naturelle; and a collection dedicated to the memory of WWII resistance at the Centre Jean Moulin.
    • The nearby vineyards and the Atlantic coast, which make the city of Bordeaux a destination of choice, and bring together heritage and culture, gastronomy and leisure.
