HASSELT UNIVERSITY
The Higher Education Summit 2022 will take place at the campus of Hasselt University, which used to be the Old Prison in the center of the city. The prison has a fascinating history. Despite the changes over the years, you’ll still see many symbols that refer to the old function of the building. Hasselt University has filled it with a new purpose, where nowadays hundreds of students study the application of law in complete freedom.

GETTING TO HASSELT
By bike
UHasselt Campus Hasselt has a covered bicycle shed on the Koekerellenpad (the path between the Old Prison and the green Administration Building) and a bicycle shed in the courtyard of the Old Prison (on the inner ringroad side).
In the city centrer of Hasselt, camera surveillance is provided at the public bicycle sheds at the following locations:
Railway station (front of the station)
Library (both the zone near the inner ringroad and the zone on Witte Nonnenstraat) – located near UHasselt Campus Hasselt
Quartier Bleu (underground bicycle shed at Parking Blauwe Boulevard) – located a few minutes' walk from UHasselt Campus Hasselt
Capucienenplein (in the Twee Torenwijk district)
City Hall (Groenplein behind the City Hall)
More information about the monitored bicycle sheds and the use of shared bikes can be found on the website of the City of Hasselt (in Dutch only).
By train
From Zaventem, Antwerp, Bruges, Brussels, Ghent, Leuven and Liège there are direct connections to the capital of Limburg every hour, seven days a week. More information can be found on the website of the National Railway Company of Belgium: www.nmbs.be
From Hasselt railway station you can bike or walk to campus Hasselt, or take a bus from the front of the railway station to Kolonel Dusartplein. From K. Dusartplein you can walk to UHasselt Campus by following the signs to "faculteit Rechten – Universiteit Hasselt" (Faculty of Law – Hasselt University).
Traveling by train is easy and cheap in Belgium, especially if you decide to share a "ticket". There are different formulas, but a RAIL PASS is not personal and costs 87 Euro with 10 trips on it. You can travel with anybody to any railway station in Belgium and have to use the pass within one year after purchase. Example: If you travel in a group of five persons to the station in Hasselt, you pay about 18 Euro. You can also buy a single ticket. Prices depend on the distance you need to travel.
If you start your travel by train from Brussels Airport you will have to pay an extra 5.70 Euro "DIABOLO" contribution. You can pay this separately.
By bus
Express bus services from Maaseik, Lommel, Neerpelt and Geel regularly arrive at Hasselt station square. There are also good connections to Hasselt from practically all Limburg municipalities. The "Kolonel Dusartplein" bus stop is close to UHasselt Campus. When you get off at Kolonel Dusartplein, follow the signs to "faculteit Rechten – Universiteit Hasselt" (Faculty of Law – Hasselt University).
The "Boulevardpendel" is a shuttle service that departs every 5 minutes from Hasselt station and takes you to the "Kolonel Dusartplein" stop in about 8 minutes.
More information can be obtained from De Lijn Info on +32 70 220 200 (0.30 Euro per minute), the Lijnwinkel stores or www.delijn.be. There is an information office on the station’s main square.
